Measure Methodology
U. S. Department of Labor (USDOL) Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) tables that record yearly rates of fatality per 100,000 workers in the high-hazard construction industry. The Agency does not have direct control of workplaces, but we track this measure.

Explanatory Note
The 2007 fatality rates are the rates that were published in 2007 by the U. S. Department of Labor (USDOL), Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The figures published in 2007 are based on the figures that were collected in calendar year 2005. There is a delay in the actual occurrence of the fatalities and the publication of the fatality rates. In addition, figures may not be published until more than a month after the close of Virginia's fiscal year.
